This bold reinterpretation blends classical elements with a modern flair, showcasing our dancers’ remarkable precision and strength. The performance, a highlight of the next@90 festival, was universally acclaimed, earning standing ovations and glowing reviews for its distinctiveness and artistic excellence. - Madcap: A Theatrical Exploration.
As part of our celebrated next@90 festival, Rowe’s Madcap emerged as a fan favorite, earning high praise as a “triumph” from the San Francisco Chronicle. This piece is a testament to Rowe’s passion for narrative and dramatic flair, offering a deep dive into the complex world of a clown beyond laughter. Set to Hagström’s haunting, carnival-esque music, Madcap invites audiences into a darker, more intriguing side of clown life after the show ends. - Gateway to the Sun: A Ballet Inspired by Rumi.
Nicolas Blanc, a former principal dancer with the SF Ballet, made a notable return to choreograph Gateway to the Sun. This expressive ballet, consisting of five movements, celebrates Anna Clyne’s beautiful cello and orchestra score. Drawing inspiration from a 13th-century poem by Sufi mystic Rumi, Blanc’s creation is a poetic and emotionally resonant journey through dance.
The entire program spans approximately 2 hours and 5 minutes, including two intermissions, offering audiences a rich and varied ballet experience.
